I had high hopes for this book after watching Dr. Gallenberger’s interviews on the excellent YouTube series, New Thinking Allowed. But I was disappointed as all of the “good stuff” was discussed on the show, leaving nothing much worth discovering in the book. So, before you spend the money, watch the interviews; it’s all there.The first half of the book recounts the moments that forged the special bond between the author and his brother, Peter, who eventually took his own life. It’s a very well-written and thoughtful retrospect. It may be of more value than any of the metaphysical stuff to any reader who’s had a similar experience, (hence the three-star rating instead of two). Peter did everything right, but couldn’t keep a job or find success as society defines it, and so he refused to participate in this losing game any longer. His suicide turns Gallenberger’s world upside down and leaves him yearning for answers. The second half of the book is comprised of channeling sessions that feel a bit suspect as Gallenberger gleans those answers from “The other side.”
I was hoping (given Gallenberger’s academic credentials) he’d spend far more time getting solid validations which is at the heart of any mediumship experience. Instead, the medium – a woman who claims to channel an ethereal intelligence called ARGO – gives him a good stock tip, and that’s all he needs to believe everything she says. The only other validation he cites is a TMI student who claims to have encountered his deceased brother during meditation. It’s not hard to imagine that this student overheard of Peter’s passing from other instructors or students. And so these “validations” hardly constitute credible evidence worthy of building an entire book around.
For this book to be truly helpful to others, Gallenberger should have spent far more time seeking solid validations, since it’s impossible for any reader with an ounce of credulity to place import on the channeled information without first having validated the quality of the channel itself. Without these validations, channeling remains highly suspect to those who are open-minded, but skeptical. It’s like life-between-life regression therapy. Both offer no way to falsify the data. Maybe Gallenberger no longer needs validation given his long-standing relationship with The Monroe Institute. But he should have considered the uninitiated reader who might be more skeptical, or already firmly wedded to a particular belief system, and factored that into his process. So, if you’re new to mediumship, but skeptical, you’ll likely think this book is nonsense. If you’re well-informed about mediumship, but have a healthy capacity for discernment, you’ll be unsatisfied (as I was). And if you’re a believer in all things metaphysical and think “The Secret” was a profound book, then you’ll likely think Gallenberger’s book is very convincing.
Speaking of “The Secret”…
Gallenberger does a lot of work in “abundance”, a spiritualist term for “making money” by being spiritual, a field that I find somewhat odious considering how the love of money has utterly corrupted our society. He’s written a couple of books on how to manifest money and material success using PK, and even created a course on the subject that he sells for over $800. We’re talking about some CDs of guided meditation with binaural beats and stock music more or less. He also takes students on trips to Vegas to practice their PK for around $2000 a pop (hotel, airfare, etc not included). Don’t get me wrong; I take no issue with someone seeking a fair price for their wares. But come on… Peter could never have afforded it; and even if he could, but it failed to work, it would be just another failure that Peter would have to own. I would be more trusting if Gallenberger had retained his psychotherapy practice and gave more freely of his spiritual insights such as they are.
For example, Tom Campbell, one of the original scientists who helped design the protocols of The Monroe Institute, allows you read his books for free, and watch his many videos that offer a true “abundance” of insight without having to go broke in the process. To me, this demonstrates a sincere concern, not only for those who have passed, but for those still trying to make their way through this crazy simulation. And it leaves me wondering if Peter was so immersed in his brother’s attitude of “abundance,” that he felt “less than” and could never measure up. And so Gallenberger’s love of material abundance exacted an ultimate price – the bigger lesson to be gleaned from Peter’s passing that ARGO failed to teach. As long as we continue to place so much importance on material wealth, more good men like Peter will continue to slip through the cracks of life – and this book does little to change this tragic trajectory, while “abundance” spiritualism only perpetuates it. If Peter’s passing isn’t evidence of this sad truth, then the irony of it certainly is.

A few years ago my life was touched by a sister, a friend and a childhood friend of my daughter all committing suicide within one year. My sister suffered for decades with a terrible pain syndrome, my friend suffered with mental illness, as did my daughter's friend. When they all chose to leave, they left many loved ones behind and bereft. Should they be condemned for what they did? This seems to remain the popular concensus of our culture even in these modern times. Dr. Gallenberger's thoughtful and provocative book provides us with another perspective while not condoning a person's choice to exit their life. His personal journal with trying to help his beloved brother is very touching and heartbreaking, one many of us can relate to if you have ever lost a loved one to suicide or even drug abuse (perhaps a form of suicide). While the channeled information certainly cannot be verified to any absolute degree, it rang true for me - that God is all forgiving and that choosing to exit your life prematurely does not give one a "free ride" on the other side, but invites them into a deep healing journey and that they are held in love throughout their process of learning to see light instead of darkness. It always remains a soul's choice whether they decide to open their eyes, heal and clear any darkness so that their next life and perhaps even in all those that came before (if you believe in no time and reincarnation). I never believed a person who suicided was doomed to hell for eternity, but it still felt like I received a healing to think that these dear people in my life who exited early are being taken care of on the other side. We'll only know for sure when we get there, but in the meantime, the information in this book gives me a great sense of peace.

The content of this book is so difficult but touching! The fact the author could describe his experiences is amazing . I am dealing with this myself and the book helps me in ways my therapist could not. This book goes deep into my soul.
